Adding an Authorized User
Adding a User to Your Interactive Brokers Account
Giving a spouse, co-trustee, or trusted contact their own login to your account — with the access level you choose, and revocable any time.
Why add a secondary user? Each person gets their own username and password and logs in independently. You decide exactly what they can see and do — read-only, trading access, or full account management. You remain the primary account holder and can remove access any time from the same screen.
Step-by-Step: Adding a Secondary User
1
Log in through the MVWM portal. Go to mvwmllc.com/login and select Interactive Brokers to reach the Client Portal. Sign in with your primary username and password.
2
Open User Access Rights. Click the person icon (head & shoulders) in the upper-right corner → Settings → at the top of the Settings page, click User Access Rights.
3
Add the new user. Click the Configure (gear) icon to open the Users & Access Rights screen. In the Users panel, click the Add (+) icon. Enter the person’s name, email address, and a username for them to log in with.
4
Confirm it is a secondary user — this is the key step. When prompted, select
Yes for “Is this a secondary user for the primary account holder?” This ties the new login to your existing account rather than opening a separate one.
ⓘ For joint accounts, select the account holder for whom you are adding access. For trust accounts, select the trustee.
5
Choose their access level. Select the permissions that fit their role. When in doubt, start narrow — you can always expand later.
Read-Only
View balances, positions, statements, and history. Cannot trade or move money. Best for a spouse who wants visibility.
Trading Access
Everything in Read-Only, plus the ability to place and manage trades. Does not include withdrawals.
Full Account Management
Complete access including account settings and withdrawals. Reserve for a co-trustee or POA agent.
Custom
Mix and match individual permissions — IBKR’s granular controls let you enable specific functions only.
6
Confirm with your email. If you are not enrolled in two-factor authentication, IBKR sends a confirmation code to your email address. Enter it when prompted and click Continue to activate the new user.
7
New user completes their setup. They will receive login credentials by email and will sign in once to finalize their profile — they may be prompted to set up two-factor authentication on their own device.

To remove access: return to User Access Rights from the same Settings screen, find the user in the Users panel, and delete them. Removal takes effect immediately. The primary account holder can also modify any user’s permissions at any time without removing them entirely.
